The department for geology and natural history of Sønderjylland is situated near Gram Storskov. The department is a special museum for whale fossils and other fossils from the geological epoch called the Miocene.
The exhibition tells the stories of the marine environment, animals, fish and plants of the area around 8-10 million years ago.

The museum is situated close to Gram Lergrav (clay pit), where it is possible for visitors to go hunting for fossils by themselves.

Taking home common fossils such as snails and clam shells, sea urchins, crabs, and some shark teeth is allowed, whereas major bone material must be handed over to the museum.
This ensures that potentially rare discoveries are registered and exhibited for the benefit of all. |
